10 Day Sea Leader and Guide Trainining.

The aim of this comprehensive training course is to help those at sea kayak award or coastal sea kayak award level, to learn about leading and guiding others, develop their personal skills and seamanship in moderate conditions. The course content will be expansive and varied and we will cover topics such as:

  • Theoretical elements; weather forecast interpretation, tidal planning, swell, surf and sea-state matter, navigation and trip planning, as well as efficient briefing methods, group information gathering, venue choice.
  • A half day of coasteering along the coast of Anglesey to help understand, and get more comfortable with swimming in close proximity to rocks.
  • Practical Navigation
  • 2 day Outdoor First Aid Training incl. certification
  • Understanding and bench-marking of different moderate environments incl. surf, rock gardens, wind and tidal features. Developing of your personal paddling skills, safety and rescue techniques.
  • Risk and incident management, decision making, equipment failure, participant focused leadership, coaching on the move and what kit to bring.
  • The Guide module of this course will include a 1-2 night overnight trip (weather dependent). Expedition skills, leadership, route finding, customer experience, camp skills and etiquette.

Throughout the course we will also cover the Sea kayak Safety and Rescue Award, Coastal Sea Kayak Award.

You will not  gain the Sea Kayak Leader Award as there should to be consolidation period after the Training. 

These 10 days should help you to boost your level as a competent group member as well. We will be based out of Anglesey Outdoors, Holyhead, for the majority of the course.
This would be a great opportunity for a club team, a group of peers as well as individuals. 

(Accommodation and food not included. However, we should be able to stay at the private annex at Anglesey Outdoors for approx. £45 per night, per person and will have use of the kitchen, lounge etc.)
